A REALITY PROJECT ABOUT A PERFORMANCEART COMPANY
*5 actors spend 8 weeks together
*New location every day
*Camera roll full time
*There were no directions
The 170 hours of footage from the project is re-edited every time it is exhibited for different curatorial concepts, bulding new narratives and questioning etablished terms in various contexts.
Shown as a performance piece it consists of a film screening and post-performance talk. The film is concerned on emptying and turning around the meaning of work/non-work situation in the relation performer/stage director and creating a kind of Duchampian non-product with a lack of materiality.
The performers were continually going against the obvious performative situation, and thus developing material that questions how nowness operates in performing arts. The post-talk consists of these same performers from 2010, coming back to the stage and open a discussion with the audience about negotiation and subversion of the idea of the art object in performing arts. They become a sort of live currency of the performer within the art market economy, and during the (hiddenly scripted) post- performance talk, the dialogue with the audience will lead to a discussion of object mode and relational and structural parameters within the performance art field. When curated as part of a performance art program the material is re-edited to pick up references to the other performances programmed parallely.
The project has been exhibited as part of architectural conversions and light installations that flips around the established reference points of the exhibition architecture. The black box is designed as a movie theatre, the venue transformed into club architecture. The transformed architectural parametres introduces a discourse where the object of what and who is staged is put into question- the performer, the moderator, the audience, the structural parametres of the venue or the performance art market itself.
The project has been adapted into 12 different context spesific installations in performance and visual art venues:
